Bangalore, June 27, 2006: Wipro Technologies, the Global IT Services Division of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) today announced that its Automotive Group has achieved Automotive SPICE™ Organizational Maturity Level 5 certification under the PATHFINDER™ interim assessment and certification scheme for process capability and organizational maturity.

 

Wipro Technologies Automotive Group is the first organization in the world to achieve Maturity Level 5 and is the first organization to achieve certification under the PATHFINDER™ scheme.

 

The Automotive SPICE™ initiative includes car manufacturers such as AUDI AG, BMW Group, DaimlerChrysler AG, Fiat Auto S.p.A., Ford Werke GmbH, Jaguar, Land Rover, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Volkswagen AG and Volvo Car Corporation.

 

A joint assessment team from Impronova AB (Sweden) and KPMG (India) performed the PATHFINDER™ assessment. The assessment team leader was Alec Dorling from Impronova AB. Impronova AB is an approved Ford Software Quality Partner. Alec Dorling is the international convener of the ISO/IEC international standardisation project and SPICE project manager.

 

“We went through rigorous review and analysis of Wipro’s automotive software methodology and we are pleased to award the AutomotiveSPICE Level 5 certification to Wipro. We are sure that this certification coupled with Wipro’s stringent quality standards will be of great value to car manufacturers and the tier 1 automotive suppliers in meeting the challenge of developing embedded software” said, Alec Dorling, Automotive SPICE assessor, Impronova, Sweden.

 

“This is a significant achievement and reinforces our leadership in quality processes. This certification will help our automotive practice to strengthen requirements management and reuse program, offer independent verification and develop innovative solutions. Our automotive customers can be assured of a robust product, enhanced functionality and lower cycle times” Said Sambuddha Deb, Chief Quality Officer, Wipro Technologies.

 

The scope of certification includes the design, development, conversion/porting, maintenance and testing of software systems in the automotive domain.

We are definite that Wipro would be able to pass on the benefits of practicing the Automotive SPICE to its customers" said M.S.Sivakumar, Manager KPMG, who was part of the assessment team.

Automotive SPICE™ has developed a common framework for the assessment of suppliers in the Automotive Industry through the publication of the Automotive SPICE™ Process Assessment Model and Process Reference Model.

 

Recently Wipro also became an associate member of the prestigious AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture) partnership. The AUTOSAR standard serves as a platform upon which future vehicle applications will be implemented and will also serve to minimize the current barriers between functional domains

 

Wipro's automotive solutions group also has significant service offerings for the enterprise IT requirements of automotive OEM's and Tier-1 suppliers. The enterprise group provides solutions focused on customer experience management, collaboration enhancement and comprehensive enterprise IT management for Wipro's automotive clients.

 

Wipro is also a member of the automotive industry focused bodies like STAR (Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail), OESA (Original Equipment Suppliers Association) and AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group).
